You gave his family a lifeline when they needed it most …
Tom is an Air Force veteran who has served all over the world, including in the Vietnam War. “It was 20 years and 15 days. Air Force.” Tom said proudly. After two decades of service, he took a maintenance job at the Chase Tower in downtown Phoenix where he worked for over 27 years until retirement.
Today, Tom and his wife live on a fixed income. And while they’re having to pinch pennies to make ends meet in these challenging times, they’re doing everything they can to help their kids, grandkids, and great grandkids.
“Our biggest challenge right now is helping our family with everything going on. They’re having a harder time than we are and some of our family has come to stay with us for a while.”
Thankful for the Help You Give
Tom held off from seeking help for a long time because he felt like other families needed it more than his. But with skyrocketing food prices and extra mouths to feed, he finally turned to St. Mary’s Food Bank and is so thankful for the help caring friends like you make possible.
“All the people who work here and contribute are just fantastic because there are so many people out there that really need food desperately,” he said.
Tom has also been encouraged by the many volunteers who freely give of their time at St. Mary’s. “I see all the high school kids who have volunteered at the Thanksgiving turkey drive and you can tell they’re excited to help. That’s when I really realized this is just awesome!”
