Destinie’s Story
After her husband suffered a bad injury in the U.S. Navy, Destinie’s family was just beginning to get back on their feet. Now, there would be more mouths to feed…
There was a time when Destinie enjoyed a stable life. She and her husband, a Gunner’s Mate in the U.S. Navy, were raising their three children. However, everything changed the day she learned he had suffered a traumatic brain injury while deployed overseas.
Although his condition improved over time, his military career was over. Later, he secured a manufacturing job.
Just as life was beginning to stabilize, Destinie learned she would become a grandmother. To ensure her son and the child’s mother could remain in school, she made the decision to be the child’s primary caretaker.

With several mouths to feed on one modest income, Destinie searched for help. That’s when she found St. Mary’s Food Bank and received nutritious staple items such as meat, milk, bread, fruits, and vegetables. “St. Mary’s helps us a lot,” she said. “Everything they give us helps to prepare meals to feed my children.”
This help is only possible because of caring friends like you. Fighting back tears, she said, “The support of St. Mary’s donors means more than anything to our family … the people who donate make it possible for us to live.”
