Frequently Asked Questions
How do I start a food drive?
You can collect non-perishable items at any time and drop them off to the Food Bank. If you would like St. Mary’s Food Bank to record the weight of your donations, please complete the Food Drive Registration form.
Can I schedule a pickup of my donations?
St. Mary’s Food Bank requires 500 pounds (approximately 500 cans) of food to schedule a pickup of your donations. 500 pounds is approximately four (4) full large food drive boxes or ten (10) full small food drive boxes. If you have less than 500 pounds (approximately 500 cans), please drop off your donations at either of our warehouse locations. Your help in transportation allows St. Mary’s Food Bank to stretch our dollars further to purchase food for our hungry neighbors. Click here for a map of our pickup and drop-off areas.
Where can I pick up or drop off boxes?
Boxes can be picked up and dropped off at either of our warehouses, the addresses and hours of operation are listed below. Food drive boxes come broken down and will fit in the trunk or back seat of most vehicles.
- St. Mary’s Food Bank– Phoenix 2831 N 31st Ave Phoenix, 85009 Monday – Friday, 8 am – 4 pm Saturday, By Appointment Only .
- St. Mary’s Food Bank – Surprise 13050 W Elm St Surprise, 85378 Monday – Friday, 9 am – 2 pm.
We have a few different box options to choose from. If you are dropping off your boxes at the end of your drive, we recommend the small box for sedans and SUVs. The large box fits best in the back of a pickup truck or in a trailer. We also have a helpful map of our pickup and drop-off areas.
What are your most-needed items?
Our most needed items are peanut butter, canned fruit, canned soup, canned protein, canned vegetables, rice and beans, cereal and pasta. While we appreciate any nonperishable food that is on our most-needed items, right now we have an urgent need for both canned vegetables and peanut butter. If your drive could highlight those two items especially, that would be great.
Do you accept monetary donations?
Collecting funds is another great way to help St. Mary’s Food Bank. For every $1 donated, the Food Bank can distribute 5 meals! Donate to St. Mary’s Food Bank and receive a dollar-for-dollar tax credit through your Arizona tax return, up to $470 (single) or $938 (married, filing jointly). We can also create an online donation page to share with friends and family. For cash and check donations, please drop off or mail your donations to 2831 N. 31st Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85009 with attention to Food Drives. Please make all checks to St. Mary’s Food Bank.
Can I schedule a delivery of boxes at the beginning of the drive?
Due to increasing costs, St. Mary’s Food Bank is no longer offering the delivery of boxes at the beginning of drives if you are collecting less than 1,500 pounds of food (approximately 1,500 cans of food). Your help in transportation allows St. Mary’s Food Bank to stretch our dollars further to purchase food for our neighbors in need.
What time will the driver arrive to collect donations?
Unfortunately, we are not able to provide a specific time the driver will arrive as it depends on their other stops for the day. Pickups typically occur between 9am – 3 pm, but drivers can arrive at any time during the hours of operation listed on your registration form. A note can be given to the driver to give you a call when they are on the way. If you would like to receive a call from the driver, please email [email protected].
What happens if I have empty boxes?
If you still have empty boxes, St. Mary’s Food Bank is able to recycle those for another food drive. Please have the empty boxes broken down. You can drop off the boxes at either warehouse or give them to the driver during pickup.
